If you've lived in Isla Vista through a June, you already know: the sidewalks fill up with couches, the dumpsters overflow by the first week, and it feels like the whole neighborhood is moving out at once. That's not far off. Somewhere around 15,000 to 20,000 people leave Isla Vista and the surrounding UCSB-area housing over the same few weeks every summer, and between them they throw out well over a million pounds of stuff in that window alone.
There are real, well-run community programs during move-out season, and if your timing and your stuff line up with them, they're worth using. There's a donation pickup option for furniture, clothes, and housewares that are still in good condition, but it only runs for a specific handful of days in mid-June and needs an appointment booked ahead of time. There's also curbside collection for larger discarded items, but that window runs on its own schedule too, and it's built around the standard end-of-spring-quarter move-out date, not everyone's actual lease.
Jack's Junk Removal is run by current and former UCSB students, not an outside crew that shows up once a year for move-out season. We know what late June actually looks like in this neighborhood, and we work around your real move date instead of a single fixed community pickup window. Whether it's one dead futon or a full unit that needs to be empty by Friday, we'll come get it.
If you're managing turnover on multiple Isla Vista units, the tight window between one tenant leaving and the next one arriving doesn't leave room to wait on anyone else's schedule. We can clear a unit same-day or next-day so it's actually ready to show or re-key on time. See our full move-out cleanout service page for details.
